Yes, I scream like a girl

My 17 year old has an appointment to take the test for his drivers license later this week, so we've been cramming. I'm really not good with this whole letting a teenager be in control of a metal monster thing. Kayle's had her license for almost 4 years, and I still don't feel overly comfortable being her passenger. I'm sure it has nothing to do with her being really short and driving a big truck and having to pull the seat all the way forward to reach the pedals. I'd be just as miserable with having my legs stretched out rather than tucked up under my chin.
In all the driving with Dylan, we've managed to skip a couple of things...parallel parking and roundabouts. Last week, I decided it was time that he go through a few roundabouts, because you pretty much can't get through Bend without without hitting one, and I don't want him to look like one of those tourists who can't get in and then can't get back out. The first one he went through was on Reed Market, and he did fine. He even signaled to get out, because I hate those dumbass people who can't be bothered to let the rest of the world know when they're turning. We went through several more roundabouts on Reed Market and then on Century, and everything went really well. Then as he came up on the one at Century and Newport, it didn't look like he was looking left to see if anyone was coming, so I involuntarily screamed "BIG RED TRUCK" and tried to put my foot through the floorboard by slamming on my invisible brake. It's probably not a good think to screech in panic at a teenage driver. After I shoved my heart back into my chest cavity everything was great again, but I was pretty glad to drop him off and school and get control of my car back again.
I'm sure Dylan will do fine on his license test. He's a good driver, and he doesn't get tense and stressed. I think that's partly because of the years of riding dirtbikes, although if he even thinks about using a car to jump a little brother like he did on his bike a few years ago, I will have to tie him to a tree out in the wood and leave him for the cougars after sewing raw meat to his face. Scheduling the test for this week pretty much guarantees it will snow. He hasn't had much snow driving experience, but I have studded tires which should help with traction (yes, I know I'm ruining the roads and causing the economic collapse of society and allowing satanists to take over the world and that's why crazy people get suicidal after Avatar because nothing here can ever be that perfect).
Next up on the list of fun will be finding a POS truck perfect for a teenager and paying astronomical teenage boy insurance rates.
Just think, after Dylan is licensed, I only have to do this two more times. I was thinking about it this morning and by the time Jake is old enough to learn to drive, Kayle will be old enough to teach him (25). I think that will be her job. After all, when she was 12 and a big chicken, I had to shave her right armpit for her the first time.
